Where water is scarcest: our six drilling countries

The lack of drinking water is not spread the same way everywhere. Some regions must travel long distances to find a source, others drink poor-quality water for lack of anything better. Goutte d'Espoir has wells built in six countries, chosen for the reality of the needs and for our ability to work there effectively. Here is an overview.

Uganda is the country where we build the most. Conditions there allow for fast projects and a contained cost: a well costs 350 euros, with a timeline of 3 to 5 weeks. It is often the first choice for those who want to see a result quickly, while helping a region where the need is real.

In India, a well is priced at 365 euros, with a timeline of 4 to 6 months. The needs there are significant, particularly in rural areas where access to clean water remains difficult for many households.

In Sri Lanka, expect 370 euros for a well, with a timeline of 4 to 6 months. Some communities there depend on distant or unreliable sources, and a nearby water point concretely changes daily life.

In Cambodia, a well costs 400 euros, also with a timeline of 4 to 6 months. Access to drinking water remains a challenge in many villages, and a well-placed borehole secures the supply for a long time.

Niger is among the regions where water is scarcest. Ground conditions there are demanding, which explains a price of 1050 euros per well, with a timeline of 4 to 6 months. The impact there is particularly marked, because the alternatives are often very far away.

In Togo, a well is priced at 1100 euros, with a timeline of 4 to 6 months. As in Niger, local constraints weigh on the cost, but the benefit for residents is considerable where clean water is missing.
