Water in Islam: What the Quran and the Sunna Say

Giving water holds a special place in the Muslim tradition. Here is how that value translates, concretely, when you fund the construction of a well.

A crowd around the pump on the day of commissioning

In the Muslim tradition, water is presented as a source of life and its distribution as a lasting benefit. Many families wonder how to turn this value into a concrete, verifiable act. This article explains the general meaning of the gesture, then how Goutte d'Espoir organises the construction of a well.

An old value, a need that is still real

The idea of giving someone a drink has run through Muslim culture for centuries. Today, in several regions where we work, access to clean water remains a daily problem. A family may walk a long way to bring back water that is not always safe. Funding a water point close to the home changes that reality directly.

We stay measured on this subject. We do not quote verses or hadiths out of context, and we add no promise we could not keep. What matters is that the act is real, traceable and useful to an identified community.

What your payment actually funds

Goutte d'Espoir is a commercial company. Your payment is not a charitable donation: it is the purchase of a construction and monitoring service. You pay for a complete structure and its documentation, not merely an intention.

  • Site survey and local permits
  • Drilling, the slab and the drainage channels
  • Installation of a hand pump and commissioning
  • Photo and video documentation on delivery

Countries, timelines and clear prices

We build in several countries. Uganda is where we build the most, with a well at 350 € delivered in 3 to 5 weeks. In India a well costs 365 €, in Sri Lanka 370 €, in Cambodia 400 € in 4 to 6 months. In Niger the cost is 1050 € and in Togo 1100 €, also in 4 to 6 months. A well serves about 40 people, and up to 400 beneficiaries depending on use.

Proof above all

On delivery, you receive photos and videos of the finished well. A plaque can bear the name of your choice, or stay anonymous. This traceability is what distinguishes a real structure from an abstract promise.

If you are looking for a concrete way to give water, a Goutte d'Espoir well lets you do so verifiably. Choose a country, gather the amount alone or with others, and follow the construction through to commissioning.
